Kjartan Kennedy is a Co-Founder and Studio Director at Causeway Studios LLC. They possess expertise in programming, c#, user interface design, java, css and 16 more skills. Colleagues describe them as "Kjartan goes on my list of "people I must find a way to work with again someday" for so many reasons. He can navigate extremely complex problems using a large toolkit of approaches - so where others might struggle to identify the right next step, Kjartan is always able to help a team maintain its alignment and momentum. He is a brilliant collaborator who makes sure everyone's voice is heard, and will always make time to help a colleague. Kjartan's visual and creative skills are really inspiring, and enable him to craft an elegant user experience even when it seems like there is minimal opportunity to do so. All of this, coupled with his incredible leadership and organizational ability, makes Kjartan a force-multiplier that I watched work across several teams and guide them to reach the company's strategic objectives in a way that delighted their users.", "I'll preface this by saying a recommendation seems unnecessary: Kjartan's work and speaks for itself, as does his impact on Unity as a product. But I'd like to express my gratitude and respect for Kjartan from our time working together in a meaningful way, and I believe given a clear and honest endorsement to his ability and character should do. Kjartan Kennedy is a perfect example of just how important it can be to approach something holistically. I think what stands out to me the most from our two years of working together are his both his desire and ability to understand a problem from every angle, blending technical with creative and playing both inside and outside the proverbial sandbox. That's something many folks aspire to do, but few do well, and I think in Kjartan's situation it's really owed to who he is as a person; he's a driven creative who wants to know both what is possible in the now and what a perfect future might look like. He likes to figure out how much runway he's been given and then see what that length of road might lead to in the future, always able to adapt to scale with the perspective of creating a foundation and sustainable legacy instead of creating single-solutions or just ticking boxes. That curiosity and pioneering spirit is further aided by strong interpersonal skills and the genuine emotional intelligence necessary to collaborate more deeply than simply handing things off. Kjartan does not simply create strong co-working relationships, he creates friendships, and ones built on a mutual respect and desire to co-support. If you cannot recognize how rare and exceptional a blend those two aspects are, adaptability and amiability, let me be clear; it's one thing to have a strong worker and a strong collaborator, but it is wholly another to have someone capable of bringing folks together to create unified longterm visions and having them lead the way to success through being a supportive peer. In his time at Unity, I have seen Kjartan fill multiple roles with (what may be unexpected to him) relative ease. He's engaged in all aspects of the development process when approaching design, from understanding the technical requirements and limitations to sourcing stakeholders and the larger implications of solutions, even acting as a project manager when the situation required it. And on new technologies to boot. I've had the pleasure of working alongside him and hearing him break down and refine explanations of complex concepts to help folks entirely new architecture understand its fundamentals, and I have seen the patience and deliberateness he takes in ensuring he's not only discussing a topic but speaking with an individual in terms they understand and in a respectful fashion. No matter who he's working with or what the question he's been asked, that respectful attitude and honest desire (and readily willingness) to help is something persistent and reflects who he is as a person. And while I'm not entirely sure if he re", and "Kjartan demonstrates an invaluable combination of engineering and user experience competence in any role he’s in. I’ve had the honor of mentoring and managing Kjartan at multiple companies. Currently at time of writing he is a member of my team and responsible for driving UX for a high profile strategic area of the business. He’s raised the bar with his approach to gaining customer insights, complex problem solving and technical understanding. He collaborates very well across disciplines, builds trust and strong relationships, and delivers what is expected of him on time. I would highly recommend Kjartan for any role he sets his sights on. Just no hard feelings if I try to poach him (again) in the future ;)"

Gameplay Programmer & Level DesignerTesseract Interactive Humanities And Game Design Jan 2013 - Apr 2014My work at Tesseract covers a range of responsibilities as one of the veterans of the student team involved in building the Mythos Unbound game-base online mythology course. As a level designer, I have primary design and programming responsibility on two levels based on different roman myths, along with taking over leadership on three levels based on the story of Odysseus due to another designer graduating. As a gameplay programmer, I have worked on most of the artificial intelligence scripting along with a lot of smaller puzzles placed throughout the game. Due to my music background, I also took the lead on working with our composer to get his music properly put into all aspects of the game.

Software Engineering InternCerner Corporation May 2013 - Aug 2013Kansas City, Missouri, UsI worked with another intern and two full-time software engineers to design and develop an online dashboard for monitoring of data going through transformations between databases. The dashboard was built using Ruby, JavaScript, HAML, and CSS, while also including basic network security and MySQL database use. We designed the interface to be user-friendly, rather than easy to program, and had the opportunity to see the project through all the way from concept to initial deployment.
