Educational consultant, writer and editor for EWP Designer Apprentice Training Program. Applied principles of adult learning to create a user-friendly and effective training manual.

Training and Development SpecialistResponsibilities included answering management requests for specialized training modules designed for their employees for the purpose of improving and enhancing job performance. The process included interviewing employees and following them around the workplace to determine the underlying educational requirements for their jobs, and creating and administering assessments to analyze employee knowledge. From there, I wrote curriculum based on the needs assessments and taught the classes which sometimes involved a good deal of mediating between class participants and their supervisors. Finally, we would re-assess to see that progress was made and that management was pleased with employee response to learning.

Dallas/Fort Worth Area

Responsibilities included stand and deliver training in all of the Microsoft Office applications of the Windows suite. Because of my excellent communications skills, I was also frequently called upon by management to accompany them out on sales calls to make presentations in order to land new accounts. Moreover, my mediation skills made me the one the company sent in after a training session had gone badly in order to save accounts.

Responsibilities included teaching middle English literature and composition, sponsoring drama productions, and accompanying the children on their week-long spring trips (one year to the desert, the next to the coast). Over the course of the year and a half that I taught here I was able to implement a couple of different units wherein I persuaded the other teacher to join me teaching to the era of English literature in which we were studying. Therefore, the history, science, math, music and art teachers joined me in the 18th, century by teaching the advances in their respective fields, and then we moved on to the 19th and 20th centuries together as a team.

Richardson, Texas

Responsibilities included teaching reading to 7th, 8th and 9th grade students with various learning differences. While here, I implemented the Nancy Atwell Reading and Writing Across the Curriculum program in order to maximize student reading performance gains over the course of a year. This program involves students writing about their reading in a journal every day which the teacher then answers every night. And with over 120 students, its a HUGE commitment for the teacher. But with the abysmal statistics regarding the future for kids who can't read, I felt it was well worth it. And it was! Many of the kids in my class went from reading at 2nd or 3rd grade levels to at grade level over the course of one or two years in my classroom.

Dallas/Fort Worth Area

Responsibilities included teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade English. Here I taught students with a wide variety of skill levels and worked keep them all challenged and working at their respective readabilities. Some were reading under grade level and required low readability, high interest books, and I remember one boy, in particular, for whom I brought in my college British literature textbook. This was my first year teaching and I remember being proud, during my observation under the assistant principal, to hear him saying that I was the most polite teacher, with regards to my students, he had ever observed.
