Project Engineer
Bloomy Controls, Inc. is a National Instruments *Select* Alliance Member specializing in turn-key automated test solutions as well as LabVIEW consulting services. As a Project Engineer at Bloomy Controls, I got exposed to a wide array of software and electrical design projects for clients in a wide range of industries. From the medical industry, to aerospace, to power distribution and fuel cells, to manufacturing test automation. My role as Project Engineer saw me involved at all phases of a project, from bidding and proposals, to planning, design, parts procurement, assembly supervision, software development and on through final delivery and acceptance testing.I frequently interacted with clients, both while working on and supporting projects, but also during more informal events such as LabVIEW user group meetings hosted at Bloomy Controls, where I both supported Bloomy Controls hosting efforts, as well as giving presentations.
Graduate Research Assistant
As a Graduate Research Assistant it is my task to drive my professors experiment forward under his guidance and advisory. The experiment that I was assigned to is a Plasmoid Thruster Experiment which uses high voltage capacitor banks to create and accelerate plasmoids which produce thrust. The thruster falls somewhere between the current generation of electric propulsion systems and traditional chemical systems in terms of thrust. In other words it has moderate ISP and thrust. My work involved adding a biasing coil and a pre-ionizing circuit that fired shortly before the main theta-pinch coil. I did computer modelling of the biasing coil's magnetic fields and built up the coil, pre-ionizing system, as well as the switches and charging sub-systems for these new components. The biasing coil was added to facilitate future studies of potential benefits of having a fully formed and aligned plasma inside the main coil at the time of the main event. The theory being that more of the theta-pinch coil discharged energy would go towards shaping the plasmoid and accelerating it out of the nozzle end of the device.
Graduate Teaching Assistant
While working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant it was my responsibility to prepare, teach, maintain and develop all lab sessions for my professor. In addition student materials such as lab reports were collected and graded.
Project Engineer
I got in contact with (at the time Radical Systems) through their role as host of the local LabVIEW user group meetings. They were excited by my energy and ambitions and we stayed in touch during my first year of studies. I was offered the opportunity to work for them as part of the educational Co-Op program and due to my prior experiences with LabVIEW and my undergraduate degree from Sweden, I was able to immediately fill in as a productive member of their project engineer teams, working on automated test systems for the medical industry as well as developing a test system for an (unclassified) army project.
Assistant Baker
As an assistant baker I was quickly given responsibility over 3 other coworkers and I was tasked with managing and doing the day to day tasks ranging from maintenance and sanitary tasks to programming new routines for the bakery production lines to the production of hand made small items.I took this job while in-between school systems and to take a brief break from academia while doing something un-related to my chosen field to give me more perspective and recharge my batteries.
