The research project I worked on for a summer and continued working on throughout my senior year of college investigated the interaction of the surfactant lauric acid at the water-carbon tetrachloride interface in the presence of calcium and magnesium. I was able to work with Python, although I am not fluent I can read it and program within it. I also used the platforms Open MM and AMOEBA to program simulations.

For more than 100 years, the ASP – a 501c3 nonprofit headquartered in San Francisco – has inspired professionals, researchers, educators, amateurs, and armchair astronomers to look up and wonder about our place in the universe, and about what the universe can teach and tell us. In classrooms, museums, planetariums, national parks, state parks, nature centers, astronomy clubs, city sidewalks, online and in backyards, the ASP fosters scientific curiosity, and shares the excitement of exploration and discovery. All to engage youth and adults across the economic spectrum – in support of their success as science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) leaders. In my role with ASP, I provided administrative and logistical assistance to the Fund Development, Membership, and Marketing Communications team. My work included drafting and issuing press releases, supporting direct marketing campaigns, creating PowerPoint presentations for the Executive Director, and extensive projects relating to organizing and executing the ASP’s marquee event: National 5-day Annual Education & Public Outreach (EPO) Conference (300+ attendees), which included a public lecture series, 2-day educator workshop, 3-day EPO symposium, fundraising luncheon for 150 guests, annual awards banquet, and exhibitors (space science technology companies, publishers, educator professional development providers). My work included pre-event planning and on-site event support.
