My role is to write and maintain a fully homegrown automation test/analysis platform 'tilde'. Written fully in Node.js and React, it serves as the central platform where test engineers coherently write and execute various tests. The system under test is a _VERY_ complex system (a realtime embedded C/C++ with 500k+ LOC), and test methodologies are often inherently convoluted.`tilde` made testing more accessible and reproducible- Test constants (i.e. memory map and the symbol table) are automatically extracted, and test parameters’ extremities are determined automatically.- The GUI part enabled even non-software engineers to write coherent test cases. Test parameters were logically grouped concisely. Execution sequence was pre-verified before submitting to the executor module, which prevented waste of time.- The executor module orchestrates the target system as well as the signal generator. Test results are guaranteed to be idempotent. Before tilde, the test result was never stable as the target system heavily relies on external measures such as clocks and other software blocks.- A high-performance Apache Spark inspired analysis module allowed analysis to be performed easily and in real-time. This allowed the whole test process to be fail-fast. Fail-fast was an important concept, as often a scenario runs for more than an hour.The platform has seen much success, achieving boasting improvement in test efficiency by 700%.
