Executive Officer (Captain)United States Marine Forces Reserve Oct 2017 - May 2018New Orleans, Louisiana, UsAs executive officer (XO) I served as my unit’s second in command in a role equivalent to assistant department head. I directed the unit’s staff - 160+ Marines responsible for administrative, logistical, intelligence and operational matters - as well as maintained readiness to assume full command of the unit in combat situations. In order to maintain readiness, I had to remain intimately familiar with the commander’s intent, as well as maintain a deep knowledge of the unit’s organization, equipment, capabilities, tactical situations and operations. As the second most-senior commissioned officer in the unit, the XO bears a heavy responsibility for the training of the unit’s officers, including both the staff and the commanders. The XO works with all officers to broaden their skill sets to enhance both their value to the unit and their future occupational possibilities. While the commanding officer (CO) focuses on accomplishing the mission, the XO keeps a careful watch on training, discipline, logistics and morale. On many occasions I also served as the CO. -
Weapons Platoon Commander (Captain)United States Marine Forces Reserve Aug 2016 - Sep 2017New Orleans, Louisiana, UsThis job was as cool as it sounds. A weapons platoon is an essential component of the infantry company; without coordinated suppression, line platoons could never move forward in a real world hostile environment. As weapons platoon commander, I served as the fire support coordinator for our organic “big guns”: our Shoulder Mounted Assault Weapons (SMAW), M240G machine guns, and 60mm mortars. I commanded 35+ Marines specializing in those respective platforms, coordinating their fires in accordance with my commander’s mission, intent, and his movements on the ground. Also led the Fire Support Team (FiST Team). FiST teams ‘soften’ the battlefield with coordinated heavy fire from artillery, mortars, naval guns and aircraft. This coordination requires maniacal attention to detail, the ability to quickly adapt to fluid situations, and excellent communication skills. -
Foreign Security Force Advisor (1St Lieutenant)United States Marine Corps Sep 2015 - Jun 2016Washington, Dc, UsThe Republic of Georgia's offer to serve alongside NATO and ISAF partners has been and will continue to be a vital contribution to the missions of bringing peace and security to Afghanistan and strengthening NATO’s collective defense. As a Foreign Security Force Advisor to the Georgian military, I was tasked with training Georgian infantry in counter-insurgency tactics, techniques and procedures, preparing them for deployment to Afghanistan, and enhancing the capabilities of our Georgian training staff counterparts. At the end of the six month train-up, culminating with an exercise at the Joint Multi-national Training Center in Hohenfels, Germany, the Georgian infantry battalion was ready to be integrated with U.S. forces to conduct operations in Afghanistan’s counterinsurgency environment. -

Rifle Platoon Commander (1St Lieutenant)United States Marine Corps Reserve | Echo Company Jun 2013 - Aug 2015New Orleans, Louisiana, UsAs an Infantry Platoon Commander responsible for the actions, morale and welfare of 38 Marines and their equipment, I routinely facilitated the professional growth, development and education of the Marines in my charge. I was responsible for planning and executing individual and platoon-level training events and ensuring mission readiness at all times. -
Student-Officer (2Nd Lieutenant)United States Marine Corps | Ocs, Tbs, Ioc Jan 2012 - Jun 2013Washington, Dc, UsThe year and a half that I spent in the highlands of Quantico, Virginia training to be an Infantry Officer was without a doubt the most trying 18 months of my life; the entire experience was a high fidelity, ultra-intense crash course in leadership. The ability to work with minimal supervision, to analyze situations, and to recommend effective courses of action was tested every single day; the cost of failure was ever present and at the forefront of my mind, as the attrition rate for the series of courses that I completed was well over 75%. The maintenance of positive working relationships during this time was crucial and a critical ingredient for success. During this time I refined my conflict resolution skills, and learned how to lead by example while identifying the desired end-state, preparing a comprehensive yet adaptable plan to reach that end-state, and then executing that plan until mission completion.
