I’ve been with Clearwater since January 2013. Up to now my primary tasks have been twofold: working on odds-and-ends type projects is one portion – designing and constructing units such as shelving and maintenance of equipment; the other portion has largely been initiatives such as 5S. Clearwater is a relatively new company and, therefore, did not have standards governing how to do certain things nor many of the organizational and safety measures in place that you might expect of a larger, more established company. My role, especially of late, has been to help make Clearwater a safer and more orderly and predictable working environment. This job has taught me quite a bit about the value of teamwork, organization, shop safety, as well as how to more efficiently and cost-effectively step back from a situation to problem solve then re-immerse to implement the solution.

At Tundra my main responsibility was helping to get a cooling conveyor belt to an operational status. I spent the majority of my time on this project on Dassault Systeme's SolidWorks 3D CAD program modeling this belt; I did, however, spend time doing paint preparation, research on and installation of OSHA standard safety devices, design and installation of add-on components, and general maintenance. Other time at Tundra was spend designing a patio and road-side monument, and learning to use a mill and lathe.Being at Tundra gave me a good opportunity to expand my skills on SolidWorks, introduce myself to the OSHA standards and methods, and further my problem-solving skills.

During my time spent at Unison I was apart of a few different projects -- Working with vendors to find appropriately matching caulk for products- Compiling several thousand bits of data on a component and organizing them all in Microsoft Excel - Assembling sample pieces to show prospective clients- Building a prototype unit to demonstrate basic principles of one product to prospective clientsThese projects really made me think critically about what I was doing, why I was doing it, and what the best way to go about it was. I also capitalized on the opportunity to further my knowledge of Excel, better my craftsmanship and attention to detail, and get used to the engineering environment as this was my first taste of an engineering job.
