Paulsboro, Nj Esb ProjectBp Remediation Management Paulsboro Esb Project Helios Finalist 2015 Jan 2010 - Oct 2015During that time period from 2010 to 2015 I was member of the Basic Work Team and spent a large amount of time on this project as the HSSE Advisor. When BP ceased terminal operations at Paulsboro, New Jersey, in 1996, it did not walk away from the community, instead it worked with them to transform the closed facility into a new economic opportunity, while at the same time the team addressed BP’s regulatory requirements for remediation. BP supported the Paulsboro community on their endeavor to redevelop the former terminal as a commercial port, which will be the first new port built on the Delaware River in over 50 years. BP’s remediation management team actively supported the plan in a way that greatly enhanced BP’s reputation as a responsible corporate citizen. Important elements of the plan included co-funding a redevelopment options study, the demolition and recycling of the old plant, the building of a solar energy plant, and integrating extensive soil and groundwater remediation, which resulted in significant cost savings. In 2016, two decades after the terminal closed, a new commercial port is due to open, providing the community with much-needed jobs. By working together and showing mutual respect, BP and its stakeholders turned a negative situation into a positive outcome.
