About Kj Long

Bringing my theatre career into the classroom, I am broadening my passion for the arts now as an educator. A 2012 graduate of George Fox University with my teaching degree (State of Oregon licensed: grades 3-9, with Drama, Language Arts, and Social Studies middle school level endorsements) I am ready to positively impact our next generation. In addition to a Master of Arts in Teaching, I have a Bachelors Degree in Theatre Arts (Univ of Idaho, 1996). I am continuing my education at Southern Oregon University earning credits to expand my teaching authorization through high school)I am a theatrical lighting specialist with professional experience in manufacturing, management, design, event Lighting-Sound-A/V, and live performance. I have a passion for concert lighting and live theatre. I enjoy being able to bring a sense of artistry and integrity to the projects I work with.While in Portland, I was an IATSE (Local 28) Stagehand, Event Technician, and Project Manager & Systems Design Specialist in the stage lighting industry. Now in Southern Oregon, I continue to work as a Stagehand (Britt Festival, Craterian Theatre) and in a variety of leadership roles for Randall Theatre Company (Education Coordinator, Technical Director, Production Coordinator).I teach in most school districts in Jackson County as a Substitute, including a long-term guest teaching position in Drama at North Medford High School (where I continue to mentor students for their drama related Sr Projects). During the summers I lead youth drama day camps with a partnership with YMCA. I have taught 8th grade science (Advanced Skills, Astronomy), 3rd grade (Language Arts), and (elementary) Summer School.Specialties: In addition to years of experience with lighting (including VectorWorks & ACAD), along with basic sound and A/V systems, I am also a poet and percussionist (congas).
