As a Development Manager within WoltersKluwer I have number of responsibilities, but the primary one is to get a product out the door. The goal is to deliver results to the customer and do close to everything necessary to achieve this. As such it is my primary concern to make sure the development teams are able to work as efficiently as possible. This means making sure they have clear goals, both short term and long term, protecting them, aligning them with the business and making sure that nothing prevents them from doing their work.One of my latest challenges is a project where we migrated and upgraded about our entire software stack. From backend implementation, contract definition, UI framework and content transformations. At the same time we migrated from several content management system to a central CMS and implemented a semantic search solution; a first within WoltersKluwer. At the hight of the project we had 14 different teams that had essential contributions to the project and we had to implement a large part of the scaled agile framework ontop of our agile delivery process to manage the project.

I’ve been working in the IT since 1997 and it’s my solid belief that architects should not only be able to tell nice stories but must have a solid understanding of information technology. An architect that knows the quirks of the major database systems and how to tune them for a specific application is actually a good thing. Most importantly architects should not shy away from implementation and development but should be involved and committed. Since 2003 I’ve had experience leading software development teams ranging in size from 4 to 25 people. First as lead developer, later as scrum master and architect. Within Kluwer I’m part of the management team-online. A lot of these project teams were (and are) geographically spread across the globe and were mostly situated in Romania, India, Serbia, America and the Netherlands.Not being co-located is one of the biggest challenges while implementing SCRUM, first within Swets and now within Kluwer. A challenge that we solved mostly using planes, video conferencing and instant messaging. The 'new'​ methodology helps us to focus on quality, minimizes waste and shortens release cycles while keeping the 'business' fully involved and in the drivers seat.Within Kluwer we are now finishing a SAML2 based single sign-on solution that will cater for our online presence. The team working on he identity and access management system is directly under my supervision.
