I worked as a front-end web developer, helping to build the future of the LinkedIn Help Center: https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedinThe team I was on develops software to serve LinkedIn members by providing them with precise and relevant information at the appropriate points in their LinkedIn journey.Not only did we build tools to help members have a great LinkedIn experience, we also had a great experience building this platform. Internally, LinkedIn has built tools that leverage its vast human intellectual capital to the utmost. Working with these tools made my experience efficient, intellectually stimulating, and fun. I worked with amazing people who are brilliant and kind. In addition, the Help Center operates as a separate application, which enabled me to do full-stack work, including:• developing front-end code in Javascript ES6, Dust.js, and .scss to revamp the LinkedIn help center user experience (in particular: search results page, contact us flow, and global headers and footers); and• writing server side code in Java and Scala to build out clients for a number of purposes, including GDPR compliance.

On behalf of private equity clients, I worked on M&A deals large and small, involving both private and public companies. Each of these transactions involved the complex sharing of information including terabytes of contracts. I found the deals and legal issues to be conceptually fascinating. I discovered that the practice of law involves serving the client at the right place, at the right time, with the right information.This experience formed my conviction that lawyers need software tools. The right tools would equip lawyers to leverage their existing intellectual assets to provide greater value to clients.

Interning with the legal team at Oracle, I contributed language to several M&A riders and software licensing agreements. I worked at the intersection of Oracle's in-house legal team and their outside counsel.Oracle has an interesting and potent business model. Building on its core offerings in database technology, Oracle acquires many enterprise software assets each year, which the company sells through its existing customer relationships. The legal team plays an integral role in the execution of this strategy, especially in M&A and IP licensing and litigation. The value of the IP that Oracle has acquired depends heavily on the intellectual capital the legal team has built through the millions of contracts they have structured over time.

I worked closely with a senior lobbyist to advise clients on lobbying efforts and their strategic response to regulatory and policy developments.This job was a formative experience. Right out of college, I got to be in the room where it happens (even if it was only to take notes).Much of my work entailed surveying numerous channels of information and synthesizing that information into valuable insights (often in the form of memos) to guide the decision-making of my more senior colleagues and of our country's leaders.Through this experience, I saw the power of providing decision-makers with precise, accurate, and actionable information.The idea that good information leads to good law inspired me to apply to Stanford Law School – the meeting place of law and technology.
