About Klaus Rubba

I love using my deep technical background to create innovative solutions. Collaborating with founders, business owners, and customers to understand their challenges and identify how technology can help to achieve their vision is my rocket fuel!I’ve been building software for over 20 years, but I built my first product, a silent auction app, from the ground up in 2018. Engaging with early adopters, collecting feedback, and iterating on the product was exhilarating. Eventually, that product grew into a full fundraising suite, including a fully certified online raffle platform with a robust, high-availability architecture. In the last decade, I’ve also worked with a dozen clients, designing and building a variety of solutions, including gamified training for nurses, end-to-end digitization of a manufacturing business, a custom CRM for a wholesaler, a customer portal and project management dashboard for fabrication business, and a social networking app. When I say I built these solutions, I mean that I worked with clients and customers to define the solution, create the data models, and architect the system. I was hands-on throughout development, establishing a solid foundation early on and leading small teams to efficiently deliver the solutions. From my experience, the biggest risk to any project is poor communication with stakeholders, especially the end users, and not iterating quickly enough. As important as communication is, actions speak louder than words! My mission is to combine my deep technical expertise with proven product validation and go-to-market strategies to help foster a pragmatic approach to product development.Where I can help- Develop product strategy - web-based and SaaS - Assist in product validation, go-to-market planning- Architecting solutions, data modeling- Full-stack development- eCommerce, AI integration, high-availability, cloud infrastructure, API integrationsCheck out https://multibitsolutions.com to learn more, and feel free to schedule a call!

  • Hyvemynds
    Founder
    Hyvemynds Mar 2024 - Present
    Edmonton, Ca
HyveMynds is a mashup of discussion forums, a survey tool, and a social network. It uses AI to automatically moderate and aggregate responses to topics into survey-like results, giving a clear picture of what an audience values.HyveMynds is particularly useful for idea generation. Users respond in their own words, allowing novel ideas to get exposure. Other users can browse existing responses and update their responses.Possible use cases include strategy planning, market research, product feedback, audience surveying, etc. We use the platform to support political discussion, bringing civility to discourse, and transparency on public sentiment. This project started as a means to grow my toolkit and develop some new skills. There are three key technological challenges I tackled in this project:1. Fine-tuned language model In addition to building out the integrations with OpenAI APIs, I also built a dashboard to review AI response performance, and manage and export new fine-tuning training data sets to refine model performance.2. Locally mirrored distributed cachingBecause of the large amount of data generated by OpenAI (embeddings used for text-similarity and clustering), I wanted to reduce lag as much as possible, so in addition to using distributed caching, I would also cache embeddings in memory on each server for quicker access.3. Focus on privacy with a public and private profileThe goal is to have demographic data available for analytics, but untraceable to the user account allowing for anonymous responses. In addition to technical challenges, I've also recruited and managed a team of driven individuals to help with data analytics and marketing to help grow the user base. Our goal is to grow the platform as a place for sociopolitical polling, to empower citizens to voice their opinions, and to hold governments accountable.
  • Launch57
    Chief Product & Solutions Officer
    Launch57 Mar 2021 - Apr 2024
    Edmonton, Ab, Ca
Launch57 was borne from the success of our product Bid Beacon at ARC Business Solutions, with the vision of building a product company focused on developing and commercializing software focused on the fundraising sector. At Launch57 I led the team tasked with all software development, including custom client projects and ongoing product development. Custom client projects included a manufacturer's customer portal to engage customers in the project delivery process, a ground up custom CRM solution for managing and monitoring sales activity at a wholesaling company and a fabrication process digitization project for another manufacturer, replacing paper from customer order entry all the way to delivery. On the product development front we built a high security, high availability digital raffle platform that needed to be certified by a 3rd party and licensed for online gaming in Alberta. Then to bring this raffle product and the silent auction product under a single umbrella, we build a fundraising management and community engagement platform to support single sign on and consolidated reporting across all fundraising activities.Being a startup environment, my responsibilities we broad and varied, including product and marketing strategy, user experience and interface design, system architecture, software development process refinement, interviewing and hiring, mentoring and managing team members, and software development.
  • Bid Beacon
    Architect & Product Manager
    Bid Beacon Nov 2017 - Apr 2024
    Edmonton, Ca
A mobile and web application to help event planners and fundraisers bring their silent auctions into the digital age. Completely self-serve, users can create and manage their auctions through the app, and auction guests can browse and bid on items, getting notified when they are outbid. We initiated this project on a pro bono basis to support the Edmonton Christmas Bureau's Christmas fundraising breakfast. Existing auction solutions started at $1k per auction, and their auction would only raise a few thousand as it was. The initial project was written, tested and published in about 7 weeks and resulted in a successful auction. We were inspired, and proceeded to build out the auction platform and pursue commercialization. In addition to a good portion of the development, I was also in charge of everything else: customer success, support, sales, marketing strategy and execution, road mapping and project management. In the early years, our marketing budget was on the order of $100-200/month and it was a project I just ran off the side of my desk. Nonetheless, we managed to grow it to having run almost 800 auctions in the first 3 years and have helped customers raise almost $30 million.
  • Narrivate
    Architect, Product Manager
    Narrivate Jun 2016 - Mar 2024
Narrivate is a game-based learning platform with a self-serve dashboard allowing real-time configuration of both learning material and game mechanics. It was developed as a product while at ARC Business Solutions and carried forward to Launch57.Learning material can be presented in several assessment styles including multiple-choice, numeric, text, image or word drag and drop, hotspot, or crossword. Each learning module can be tied into the game economy with any number of costs or rewards configured. A rich hint system can further gamify the learning experience by allowing learners to weigh the cost/benefits of seeking more information to solve a problem. In response to evidence pointing to emotion as a key driver of retention, we built out a rich narrative experience. Story slides can be configured with imagery, audio, and videos to pop up when users complete quests or complete a training module.Check out the healthcare-focused implementation of the Reach platform: LIPHA, "Learning Inter-Professionally Healthcare Accelerator", learn more at https://www.mylipha.ca/My responsibilities included system architecture, application design, data modeling, and development.
