About Klaus Thieme

Klaus Thieme heads the Department of International Programmes (development cooperation and humanitarian action) of Solidar Suisse. As member of the Board of Directors of the not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation, based in Zurich, Switzerland, he is responsible for more than 65 development projects, operating in 24 countries on 4 continents all over the planet. Creative, flexible, and innovative, he is able to explore, test, advance and manage new approaches of development collaboration for successful, sustainable and efficient projects and programmes.In his role, Klaus serves as the Vice President for the European SOLIDAR network, to support its members in their work to achieve the joint vision at the national, European, and international level through the formation of alliances, coordination of collective actions, advocacy work, and policy influence, exchange of experiences, and access to funding and opportunities.

As the provision of adequate housing is one of the crucial bottle necks for the staffing of health institutions in rural areas, SolidarMed developed a Zambian not-for-profit but profitable company named SolidarInvest. The project was a showcase model for successful innovation, decoupling health care financing from subsidies from the Global North.
