Klaus is a Founding Partner and Co-CIO of Klima Capital Advisors and a carbon and commodity market expert. Klima is an environmental investment manager dedicated to carbon markets with the purpose of helping financial markets do more of the work in our fight against climate change.Klaus believes climate change is the defining challenge of our generation. Over recent years, there has been an incredible transformation in awareness and appreciation of the need for action. We are only at the very beginnings of a significant, lasting trend in the regulation and pricing of carbon around the world. Prior to Klima, Klaus served as the lead strategist for PIMCO’s global commodity and carbon offerings, including one of the world’s largest commodity hedge funds. He has 15+ years of experience developing deep domain expertise across a range of asset classes and translating that into compelling investment strategies. He has collaborated with and structured investment solutions for some of the largest and most sophisticated institutional investors in the world.Since 2018, Klaus has focused on carbon markets and played a principal role in building out PIMCO’s carbon investing efforts. He helped integrate carbon into the investment universe of some of the world’s largest commodity funds, launched the California Carbon Access Fund (a dedicated CCA fund), and increased awareness of this nascent asset class with approachable thought leadership.Klaus holds an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated with highest academic distinction (Palmer Scholar). He received undergraduate degrees in international business from Northeastern University, Boston and ESB Reutlingen, Germany. He holds the CFA, Financial Risk Manager (FRM), and CAIA designations.
