Profile bio

About Klaus Sommer Paulsen

I have worked in the unique borderlands of creative innovation between story, experience, design and technology across industries, media and disciplines ever since I was a teenager in the 1980s. My roles and titles have balanced between the left and the right halves of the brain, having worked in diverse positions as creative director, designer, programmer, writer, strategist, producer, founder and co-founder of various companies in Denmark and the United States. Since the 1990s, I have been building my experience and, dare I say, position, in the marketing, attractions and entertainment industries with a wide range of projects. Some of these have even been considered groundbreaking, and some have been honoured with awards. Today I combine these disciplines when working around the world as a creator, consultant and for the training of professionals and students. I am always keen to meet new people with skills and visions, and if you find yourself interested in the type of work, articles, books, presentations and talks that I am involved with, I invite you to reach out to me and connect.

Listed skills include Creative Direction, Digital Marketing, Concept Development, Integrated Marketing, and 46 others.

Ceo Creative Director And Founder

Ennovator Unlimited

As founder of Ennovator Unlimited, I defined the multi-agency structure of the Ennovator agencies, and defined the strategy for each division. Running the agencies included leadership responsibilities for changing teams up to 12 people and consolidating external partnerships. Focus and effort on an International market resulted in the support from and membership of different worldwide networks of independent agencies and resources in marketing, advertising and experience design.

Jul 2006 - Dec 2010

Ceo Creative Director And Founder

Ennovator Unlimited

Some say we live in an experience economy. Where ever there is an economy, sales must be present to drive it. Where ever sales are important, marketing must be present to ensure it. In an experience economy, experience marketing will become ubiquitous. Inspired by the likes of Disney Imagineering and George P Johnson, I founded and became creative director of the experiential agency Ennovator Experience.Ennovator Experience was the launching pad for projects such as mobile guides and other projects going beyond the common perception of marketing. As creative director, lead concept developer and with hands-on in other aspects of the projects, I was involved from the strategy and concept of the agency to the sales, presentation, experience strategy and concept development, production and research trips around the country in all kinds of weather. The agency eventually became official partner of the European Union-funded The Wadden Sea Project. Other clients included Friluftsraadet, Hotel Grand Park, Lufthansa CityLine, Soerup Herregaard and VisitSydVestSjaelland.

Feb 2009 - Nov 2010

Also, I managed our overall partnership with external partners. The team worked with BM Samarbejdet, FDM, Ruth's Hotel and other great clients, and was awarded Web Marketing Association‘s Advertising Standard of Excellence Web Award for the self-promotional Ennovator Marketing website.

Ceo Creative Director And Founder

Ennovator Unlimited

As founder of the first of the Ennovator agencies, I defined the strategy and concept for the agency. It was to be a frontrunner in integration, both in integrating new media with traditional approaches and in the way collaborative constellations can achieve the best possible solution to any project, based on the right idea. This approach boosted the turnover ten times from the first to the second year almost another 60% the following year.As a creative director, I was the lead of all creative development on a team of 12 people, and naturally involved with presentations, pitches and head of sales. Also, I developed, implemented and applied creative briefing tools. At Ennovator, I had the pleasure of working with Bolius, BK Medical, DLBR, DSB, Hi-Fi Klubben, IKEA, Jyllandsposten, LEGO, LokalBolig, Novozymes, Novo Nordisk, Nycomed, Copenhagen International Film Festival, RAAD&DAAD Byggecenter, Ruth's Hotel, Soestrene Grene, StofaNet, TDC, YouSee and many more. For a short while, I was with the largest Nordic digital agency, Creuna. During that time, I got around to working with clients such as Arla, Q8 and the municipalities of Fredericia and Slagelse. As part of the leader group, it was also my responsibility to recognize how to move the team forward individually and as a team. And I realized that I was not the best fit for this team of skilled IT consultants, so we parted ways with a handshake and a smile, and to this day I wish them all nothing but the best.

New Media Producer

Copenhagen C, Copenhagen, Dk

Before this multi-award winning agency changed its name to Uncle Grey, I was the head of digital development working as a producer with project managers and creative resources alike. Involved with concept and design development in-house, the core digital production was done by external teams under my direction. Responsibilities also included presentations, client services, supporting sales, production and project management and strengthening the agency’s digital competencies and profile. Clients included detail brands such as fakta, RAAD&DAAD Byggecenter, furniture brands such as Kvist and fashion brands such as Bestseller’s Wholesale’s EXIT brand. Aug 2000 - Nov 2002

New Media Producer

Grey Direct & Interactive

When inteGREYted became part of the national Grey Direct & Interactive with bases in Aarhus and Copenhagen, I continued my role as New Media Producer, now as a creative leader of an integrated team of 12 in Aarhus. I was initially signed on as a new media designer with concept development and design responsibilities, all the while working with both multidisciplinary internal teams and digital external teams. Soon, however, I expanded the role with the responsibilities of the division’s new media producer, eventually including creative team leadership.inteGREYted interactive integrated special skills not at least for retail brands, and as a special division to the Grey agencies in Aarhus, Odense and Aalborg, an extensive client list included a diversity of brands including TDC in telecommunications, KMD in IT, and the multi-award winning fakta campaign. For the online efforts on the fakta, the newly established team was nominated for Reboot's award for best integrated campaign.

Jan 1998 - Mar 1999

Senior Designer / Production Manager

København Ø, Hovedstaden, Dk

I was asked to join Bates, which has later become Bates Y&R to be part of the leadership duo to head the first team to bring digital competencies into this well-established, brilliant agency. Reporting directly to the head of the Interactive department, I was in charge of the creative team as both production manager and senior designer. This diverse role included both team and production management, as well as taking part in concept and design development. Customer contact was a natural part of being head of a team of handful of creatives, and I had the pleasure of working with brands such as Danisco Distillers, DSB, Greenland Homerule, GlaxoWellcome (now GlaxoSmithKline), Royal Unibrew, Nicorette and many more in both Denmark and abroad. The team was nominated The Golden At Sign for work on a pre-launch countdown website for Berlingske Tidende.

Jul 1996 - Dec 1997

Multimedia Designer / Programmer

Young & Rubicam Interactive

At Young & Rubicam Interactive we decided to be first and biggest, a devotion we kept true to in many aspects. While here, I truly learned to think big - not at least by MD Birger Hauge. As our team worked as dedicated pioneers around the clock, I got to work with all aspects of multimedia design from blueprint to design and programming, and on one of my last assignments, I was the team leader. Most of the projects involved customer contact and working with creative profiles with a more traditional background. And the projects included some impressive visions and firsts, like demoing the way most of us order cinema tickets now and the launch of Opasia, TDC's initiative to launch the world wide web to the private customers.

Aug 1995 - Jun 1996

Multimedia Designer Intern

Cybersoft (Courage Interactive)

As part of my training as a Space Invader (Multimedia Designer), I was intern at CyberSoft, which later became Courage Interactive. Working at entry-level assignments, I still got to work with both concept development, design and programming, as well as utilizing my drawing skills for various projects and information sheets on the possibilities of interactive multimedia. This all-out involvement is something I would come to apply to the interns I later on became responsible for myself as a creative leader. One of the projects where I got to involved from the beginning was Global Generation, a concept of intercultural exchange that still exists today.

Dec 1994 - Mar 1995

Freelance Illustrator, Radio Host, Writer, Radio Technician, Printing Shop Assistant

Various

Before my professional career in interactive multimedia and advertising, I worked on and off in many different aspects of creativity, arts and culture. At age 13, I did my first radio show soon followed by my first commission, a hand-drawn logo, which paid the equivalent of about $20. Later on, I worked at a radio station as technician, and later yet as an assistant at a printing shop. For some years I did hand-drawn illustrations on a freelance bases, before getting accepted into one of the first schools of interactive multimedia in the world, Space Invaders. During the early days, I was glad to be awarded for a short novel in the 1986 multimedia competition Win The Future. My contribution was a sci-fi story of a dangerous trek through a dystopian future version of my hometown of Aarhus, with all the lack of life experience a teenage writer has to offer.
