I am a first year PhD student in Emory’s philosophy department focusing on 20th Century Continental Philosophy (esp existentialism and (post) structuralism), Phenomenology, Aesthetics (esp Philosophy of Literature), and Feminist/Queer theory. I also have interests in psychoanalysis and comparative literature. Within literature, I work mainly on modernism and French literature/literary theory. Right now, I most interested in studying the role of identity in subject formation. I explore how this plays out for the existential self, the aesthetic experience, and our use of language, among many other things. I spend much of my time reading Heidegger, Barthes, Foucault, Cixous, and Joyce. I also have a background in higher education, particularly admissions. Having, as an undergraduate, worked as an RA, Title IX peer coordinator, and member of several hiring committees, I have developed a complex understanding of higher education institutions. I also have 5 years of experience in admissions and recruitment work, first as a tour guide and then full-time as a member of Sarah Lawrence’s admissions team. Now, in addition to my studies, I work part time as a college counselor. My study of philosophy is also grounded in this love for education and passion for student services.
