Working with a small private-equity backed team: assembled large scale positions through organic leasing in the Powder River and Big Horn Basins by leveraging institutional knowledge of key plays and applying novel laboratory analysis to refine core fairways. Executed a 7 well Niobrara horizontal drilling program in the PRB while evaluating multiple M&A proposals, and initiated construction of the data room for ultimate divestiture. Conducted exploration, prospect generation, and asset evaluations in the Uinta and Green River Basins, while on-boarding investors by describing strategies and execution of successful resource-play investments. • Aided in successfully on-boarding more than $850MM in committed funds by presenting often complex geologic concepts in laymen’s terms to a wide field of institutional, government, and independent investors.• Conducted basin-wide Petroleum System evaluations in Big Horn and Powder River Basins by integrating oil and rock geochemistry, with tectonic burial history and maturation trends to determine Ultimate Expellable Potential, a unique method of quantifying the generative capacity of source rocks.• Led geologic operations on seven Niobrara horizontals from permit and spacing approvals, prioritizing locations and drill scheduling, conducting pre-drill meetings, geosteering oversight, providing geomechanical input into frac modeling and completions, and post drill evaluation in order to de-risk >58,000acres in central Powder River Basin.• Assembled additional exploratory positions in northern and southern Powder, and ~42,000 acres in the Big Horn Basin.• Collaborated with Esal, Stratum, and SLAC National Laboratory in designing novel low-cost cuttings-based wettability, imbibition, and NMR P&P techniques to aid evaluation of Niobrara well results.• Collaborated with Anschutz and Stratum in a high-resolution oil-typing study of Niobrara produced oils to determine relative contributions of oil from different targeted benches.

Oversaw prospect generation in Uinta and Paradox Basins in core and non-core asset areas, often in areas of sparse well control requiring use of multifaceted exploration techniques, including traditional subsurface correlations and mapping, surface geologic mapping, far-field geophysical data sets (gravity and magnetics), extensive literature searches, and non-traditional data sets, such as temperature mapping and surface geochemical studies. Prepared divestiture packages for multiple areas in Uinta Basin and participated in internal valuation of company assets, including resource potential and inventorying potential drilling locations.

Worked on development and geologic operations, including 12-rig vertical Wasatch drilling program in Uinta Basin and reservoir property mapping in established fields in San Joaquin, Uinta, and Green River Basins. Presented drilling results, analysis, and future drilling plans to executive management on quarterly basis, as well as competitor activity monitoring, evaluation of competitor results, and leasing recommendations. Co-led field trips to introduce drilling engineers to geologic concepts, using outcrops of formations being exploited. Advanced to geosteering higher-risk step-out horizontal wells in Uinta, Green River, and Powder River Basins.Built new plays in under-explored formations by working with petrophysicists and geophysicists to de-risk plays with various geophysical, geochemical, and petrophysical analyses. Field/lab research on distal basin floor deepwater strata of the Permian Brushy Canyon Fm., Delaware Basin. Focus on stratigraphy, sediment bodies, petrography, sedimentology, experimental sedimentology (Leeds, UK), in a 50 km2 area of the southern Delaware Mts. Major contributions: 1) Documented the nature of Brushy stratigraphic thinning southward across the outcrop. Documented temporal and spatial trends in attributes that refined a hierarchy of cyclicity. Documented basinal sedimentation patterns controlled by long transport distance, low gradient, yet are influenced by a) proximity to a starved basin margin, b) underlying inherited topography, and c) smoothing of the depositional profile through time. 2) Proposed a sediment body classification encompassing body type and scale. 3) Petrographic analysis augmented sedimentologic interpretations of facies and led to experimental investigation of the role of detrital carbonate on turbulence suppression and resultant deposit texture.
