I help to provide a listening service for children and young people across the UK through telephone and online chat counselling sessions to children who ring 0800 1111.We support the children and young people by being someone who will listen and believe them with anything they wish to talk to us about which can include life threatening situations.I work alongside supervisers to risk assess a child / young persons situation and work with the young person so they can come up with options so they can make an informed decision.I also work with supervisors as a co-trainer to train new volunteers on Childline's counselling model through the Essential Volunteer Training (EVT) programme.Some of the things that children and young people speak to childline about include; bullying, self harm, abuse, sexual health and sexuality, family, friendship and relationship issues, school issues, suicidal thoughts etc.

I worked within the advice centre to provide one to one support to students on various issues such as;- Housing (e.g. landlord issues, contract advice, rent arrears etc.)- Academic (e.g. plagiarism, disciplinary, complaints and appeals etc.) - Finances (e.g. hardship, SFE entitlement, money management advice) Providing each student with independent, confidential, quality advice so they can make an informed decision.

Children'S Services

This role involved developing meaningful relationships with young people who have disabilities to provide them and their families with respite and support. Providing 1:1 support out in the community with young people and delivering day services for groups of young people based on local need

Within this new and exciting role, I was given the task to develop Straight Talking Peer Educations work in Birmingham and surrounding areas. This included recruiting a team of Teenage Parents to go into schools to run workshops with young people around what it is like to be a teenage mother or father. Sharing their experiences first hand through a peer to peer approach.This was a new exciting project in Birmingham and I was pleased to be at the forefront of it, leading a team of teenage parents to reduce the teenage pregnancy rates in Birmingham.
