Kristin Majda has worked in the field of STEM education for more than 20 years as a secondary science teacher, college instructor, academic specialist, and STEM education consultant. She has particular expertise in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and has developed and facilitated a wide array of professional learning across the state, including leading professional development and presenting at numerous conferences. She is an active member of multiple state and national science education organizations and an advocate for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education. In 2018 she was honored with two STEM leadership awards for Ventura County and in 2021 she served as a keynote speaker for the annual conference of the California Association of Science Educators (CASE). Kristin has led multiple districts in implementing the NGSS, including developing strategic professional learning plans, providing intensive professional development, leading review of curricula, co-teaching demonstration lessons, and leading professional communities of practice. Kristin’s diverse background, attention to detail, and keen analytical abilities have helped her excel in situations requiring root-cause analysis and problem-solving. She has successfully led WASC accreditations, categorical program audits, multimillion-dollar grants, and large-scale STEM education events. In addition to her current role as the science instructional specialist for Oxnard School District, Kristin teaches science methods courses for the School of Education at CSU Channel Islands. She is currently working on her doctorate in educational leadership and incorporates new learning into her daily practice on a regular basis. Kristin’s focus is on helping teachers plan and facilitate student-centered, inquiry-based lessons that incorporate equity practices for diverse learners. She is particularly interested in strategies and resources to help educators effectively teach cross-curricular practices and integrate science with literacy instruction for multilingual learners. Kristin is passionate about STEM education because she whole-heartedly believes it is critical to the future of our nation and our planet; and because she believes that providing every student with the opportunity to engage in STEM experiences is a matter of equity.Before working in the field of education, Kristin worked as a senior technical writer in the computer software industry.
