MICROBIOLOGY LABORATORY DUTIES• Work according to ISO 17025 standards and follow the procedures set out with the Quality Management System (QMS).• Water Quality Testing as per UKAS standards mainly using Membrane filtration. • Develop strategic ways to solve water quality issues, read culture plates, and identify specific hospital pathogens such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Mycobacterium spp. • Perform microbial identification confirmation tests such as Oxidase, catalase, Gram staining, and Carbol-fuchsin staining. • Conduct weekly and annual water testing from Endoscope washer-disinfectors (EWDs) and drying cabinets, mainly using Membrane filtration for total viable count (TVC) and detection of other hospital pathogens. • Obtain various air and surface samples from different sites at the laboratory to perform environmental monitoring and enumerate the microbial growth from the environmental monitoring plates. • Perform DNA extraction and qPCR to identify and quantify mycobacteria in water samples. • Detect and quantify bacterial endotoxins using a Kinetic Chromogenic LAL assay.• Expert in endoscopy water testing using sterile water testing medical devices called Surrogates. Participate in External Quality Assessment (EQA) schemes by the UK Health Security Agency.• Perform audits on analytical methods and quality systems.• Efficiently use Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). CHEMISTRY LABORATORY DUTIES• Automatic colourimetric determination of Phosphate, Silica, Total Hardness, Chloride, Nitrate, Ammonia and Sulphate by Gallery Plus discrete analyser.• Determination of pH and electrical conductivity by Skalar SP2000 Robot.• Detection of Calcium and Magnesium in endoscopy rinse water and steam samples.• Colorimetric quantification of paracetic acid and chlorine dioxide in endoscopy rinse water samples.

- Attended microbiological training to learn the procedure involving the examination of samples collected from different patients to obtain a better understanding of various microbial infections. - Collected patient's blood samples and also conducted experiments with urine, sputum, blood and stool samples. - Tested stool samples for the detection of E. coli, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Salmonella, Shigella, and Vibrio cholerae. - Tested urine samples to detect UTI-causing bacteria.- To understand the mechanism of beta-lactam antibiotics, used antimicrobial discs against specific target microorganisms. - Drinking water testing using membrane filtration to identify any pathogenic microorganisms in the hospital's cafeteria water.
