About Kurt M.

I believe that there are 3 very important aspects to being a great software development leader. I call it the “3 C’s of great software leadership”: Culture, Creativity and Conclusions.Culture: I believe that building a great culture does some great things for a software team. According to LinkedIn, the Software sector has had the highest turnover rate the last 3 years, but having a great culture in which people want to stay and also want to come work for you gives great advantages to hiring great people. And I also believe that hiring for culture is just as important (I’d say even more important) than hiring for technical acumen. I’ve had great developers that just didn’t meld with the rest of the team’s culture, and it always eventually creates problems. Conversely, I’ve hired people that were the right “fit” that ended up going above and beyond what they thought they could do because the culture was such that they felt comfortable enough to ask for help or input.Creativity: Software development is a creative process. It is a unique world in which cold, hard logic beautifully melds with the elegant beauty of creativity. The creative process of using math and logic to create this expansive, communicative application is an amazing adventure. Each new application is a collective muse that uses each developer’s experience and thought processes as a unified mass of logic and creativity - and personifies teamwork in the truest sense. Conclusions: Conclusions, you ask? Me too! To be honest, the “3 C’s” sounds a lot better than “2 C’s and a D”, and “Conclusions” was the closest synonym that actually meant something here. The real “3rd” aspect here is “data.” Getting back to “Data.” I believe that if you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it. You also can’t improve what isn’t measured, right? Well, maybe you can improve a little, but how do you know if you’ve improved without measuring it? Data is so very important in business. What do I measure? All that I can without it getting in the way of our agile processes (Scrum). Here is a short list of what we measure that I am quite proud of:* 97%+ SLAs since we started measuring.* 100% on-time delivery of all major projects.* Not a single major bug pushed to production. The intangibles: Seeing my team grow from an adept software team to a world-class software team has been my greatest pleasure. The amount of amazing code that gets deployed by this team is stunning. That’s what I do - I grow great individuals into extraordinary teammates

Listed skills include Software Development, Agile Methodologies, Sdlc, Program Management, and 59 others.
