Karim has 15+ years of industry experience building products for a variety of domains including performance and capacity engineering, big data, data analytics, monitoring of large-scale distributed systems, content distribution, video streaming and cellular networks. His expertise encompasses areas such as leading engineering organizations, building teams, mentoring, coaching, product management, project management, as well as technical and financial strategy. Over the course of his career, Karim worked at Movik, Sprint Research Labs, Akamai, Meta and Uber.Karim spent 7+ years in academia, teaching, conducting research in the field of Computer Networks and publishing technical papers. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from Boston University.Today, Karim is a Director of Engineering at Uber where he spent the last 5+ years. He leads the Capacity & Efficiency Engineering organization which specializes in building software in the capacity planning, management and analytics domain. The key objective for the org is to efficiently scale Uber’s platform to meet both business and product needs. On the personal side, Karim was a Squash Pro at Squash Zone in the Bay Area and enjoys being involved in all things related to sports, health, fitness, and more generally the medical field.
