Profile bio

About Kevin Magnaye

I am a data scientist with a decade of experience in analyzing and visualizing complex 'omic datasets. My doctoral thesis focused on identifying and characterizing genetic and epigenetic mechanisms underlying maternal transmission of asthma risk. I served as a Ruth L. Kirschstein Predoctoral Fellow and received a Top 10 Clinical Research Achievement Award for 2023 for my work involving maternal asthma, epigenetics, and asthma risk in her children. I served as an NIH-funded postdoctoral fellow at UCSF, where I was investigating the interplay between genetics, epigenetics, and the human microbiome in asthma, ulcerative colitis, and other inflammatory diseases from early life to later stages. I currently work as a data scientist at Caris Life Sciences to help develop molecular signatures underlying precision medicine efforts in oncology. My long-term goal is to improve patient outcomes by using data to better characterize disease biology and enhance detection and treatment efforts. I am also passionate about outreach and mentorship and have served as a coordinator for the UW Genomics for Minorities Project and as an instructor for high school and undergraduate students in Phoenix, Arizona and in Oaxaca, Mexico as part of the Clubes de Ciencia initiative.

  • Institutional Research and Career Development Award (IRACDA) recipientProject: Molecular Basis of Fecal Microbial Transplant Efficacy in Ulcerative Colitis Patients
  • Analyzed longitudinal clinical trial data including gut metagenomic and metabolomic, as well as mucosal 16S and RNA-seq data, to understand the microbial and host mechanisms underlying successful response to fecal.
  • Investigated the impact of antibiotic pretreatment (Rifaximin) on antimicrobial resistance gene profiles before and after FMT in the same UC patients.Project: Investigating the Effect of Microbes and Their Products on.
  • Interrogated the epigenetic landscape of macrophages that were treated with the asthma-associated microbial metabolite, 12,13-diHOME, and found that 12,13-diHOME mediates epigenetic reprogramming of macrophages via.
  • Testing relationships between microbial communities (16S) and epigenetic (DNA methylation) signatures in the upper airways of over 1,400 asthma cases and controls to uncover microbial colonization patterns that relate.
