The summer of 2012 and 2014 I filled a Forest Aid position with the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service. My job as a Forestry Aid was to fight forest fires indirectly and directly. When I was not fighting wildland fire, I was performing project work which usually consisted of cutting, bucking and limbing trees with a chainsaw. The purpose of this project work was to thin out areas and prevent detrimental fires from occurring or spreading in those areas. When project work was not being performed, my duties were to follow instructional training, understand and deliver morning briefings, take weather data, report weather status and complete physical training activities. Cleaning and repairing equipment was also part of my responsibilities as a firefighter. I was expected to help keep the fire engines and the fire station clean and organized.

The summer of 2011 I completed an internship with L.I.D. During the internship I gained experience installing natural and man-made patios, gravel and grit pathways, flagstone steps, sprinkler systems, natural and man-made retaining walls, rock creeks and metal edging. I learned how to plant trees, shrubs and perennials. I learned how to lay sod and mulch. Throughout the summer I operated machinery such as, sod cutters, trenchers, jumping jacks, and skill saws. I worked with hand tools regularly such as picks, axes, shovels, sledge hammers, rakes, tampers, and post-hole pounders. Working outside and creating beautiful landscapes was a lot of fun and great learning experience.

During high school I worked for Safeway for three years. In the last year I was promoted to management. At this time I was in charge of the entire store five nights a week. I was also the in-store recruiter; therefore, I was in charge of all the hiring for the store as well. I performed instructional training, hired employees, gave drug tests, and did background checks on new hires. In the years before I was promoted to management, I worked in the produce department, dairy department, customer service booth, check stand, and also worked as a courtesy clerk. My reasoning for leaving was to obtain a higher education at CSU. During my time with Safeway I showed excellent customer service and leadership every day.
