One of the best things about supply chain is the ability to work on problems that are broad and complex, and solve them with solutions that focus first on people, and second on processes and technology. I accomplish this by immersing myself into the team(s) and the details so I can understand how the two interact. So to understand me a little better, here are some things I’ve learned across my personal and professional career:“A RISING TIDE RAISES ALL SHIPS”That line has stuck with me throughout my 13+ years of supply chain planning and analytics experience at multinational companies such as Google, Starbucks, and Dow Chemical. Primarily because I believe success isn’t a zero-sum outcome. Personal growth and team success can coexist. And if you’ve worked with me, you’ll know that I thrive in building cross functional teams and communities because: - I have the proven track record of proactively initiating cross-functional projects and processes- I can make decisions about priorities and drive programs across business unitsAbove all else, you’ll find that I have the ability to lead with or without authority because job titles don’t bring people together. Connection to a higher purpose and a sense of personal ownership is what separates teams who succeed BECAUSE OF who they are, rather than DESPITE who they are.“PERFECTION ISN'T A STARTING POINT”Over the course of my life, I’ve learned that accomplishing anything meaningful is rarely achieved on the first try. In fact, aiming for perfection on the first try is ironically a near perfect recipe for failure. So when I first heard this, I was blown away.I’ve since incorporated this mindset into nearly everything I do and everyone I work with because it’s a fantastic way of getting over the fear of failure (ie: perfectionism) or reframing setbacks.There is success in failure and reflecting on what went wrong is just as important as understanding what went right.
