About Kaitlyn Mcgranahan

Some of my fondest memories of growing up with educators as parents are of going to my step-mom's school during the days that I had off at school. I experienced so many different classroom environments from special education classrooms, speech and language sessions, and STEM classrooms. I longed to have a classroom of my own to decorate—somewhere I could foster the same relationships that I had seen my step-mom have with her students. Through my undergraduate work at California State University, Fullerton, I studied physical education, the human body, and coaching. I learned fundamental concepts for teaching, but learned quickly after working as a physical education aid, that being in that environment wasn't for me. I still craved a classroom community that I could continue to work with children. I couldn't decide if special education or multiple subjects was the right path for me. The decision became easy when I happened to find the Urban Dual Credential Program at California State University, Long Beach. A green program that I joined as the third cohort. I fell in love with the RSP setting while student teaching in Little Lake City School District. The resource program offers me a balance between administrative work and teaching. I am inspired by my students every day that I come to work and use their energy to keep me striving to be the best educator I can be. With my diverse background in education, I have a unique skill set that allows me to engage students across disciplines with evidence and play-based learning.
