He started his career at AT&T Bell Labs and Motorola and went on to found and lead multiple startups, some of which were later acquired by Blackberry, Samsung, and Apple. He is a recognized expert in mobile, data, and speech technology services and is currently the President and CEO of CallGate, South Korea's top Visual IVR company.Before joining CallGate, Kang was President of Mobeewave's APAC office and an advisor to the CEO. He played a key role in Mobeewave's partnership with Samsung to launch a mobile POS service on Galaxy smartphones. In mid-2020, Apple acquired Mobeewave to access its mobile POS technology. Previously, Kang led Mobeam to integrate its barcode-beaming technology into over 300 million devices within two years and launched the Beep'nGo barcode-beaming shopping and loyalty card app, which was downloaded by over 7 million users in just seven months before being acquired by Samsung.Starting in 2009, Kang led Samsung's service platform team, developing messaging services, app/content stores, connectivity services, device management services, and more. He launched a total of 23 Samsung-branded services globally.In 2002, Kang founded fastmobile Inc. and raised $38 million from top-tier VCs in Silicon Valley and Illinois. At fastmobile, he built a premium mobile messaging solution and serviced major portals and mobile operators. He exited fastmobile through an asset sale to Blackberry. Prior to fastmobile, Kang developed a multi-modal solution at Auvo and deployed it with a European operator over a 2.5G network. He also created a solution that enabled fastmobile's innovative wireless voice and data instant messaging.At Motorola's service business unit, Kang was a pioneer team leader responsible for creating Motorola's voice/data product portfolio from concept to deployment, deploying with European wireless carriers during his time in the UK.Kang gained his early experience in speech/telecommunications at AT&T Bell Labs' forward-looking division, where he was responsible for customer solutions involving speech and telephony technologies, including hardware, firmware, Unix kernel, and application development.Kang holds a BSEE and MSEE from Sogang University in Korea and has taken courses towards a PhD at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He also has two years of university-level teaching experience in Computer Science.
