Dr. Dixon's background includes extensive Oral History research on Dance in Black Philadelphia. Her book on ballet pedagogue the late Marion Cuyjet, documents the impact of Cuyjet's Judimar School of Dance on Arts and Dance in 20th Century Philadelphia. She was selected as a Fulbright Specialist Scholar for Teacher Education in Dance, Bandung, Indonesia and her publications address Black Women in American Dance, Black Continuum in American Dance and Dance Pedagogy. Professional background includes Alvin Ailey American Dance Center Merit Scholarship Recipient, Dance Theatre of Harlem ballet studies with Karel Shook, Tanaquil Le Clercq, Mette Spaniardi, and Lolita San Miguel, Dunham Technique with Syvilla Fort at Teachers College, Columbia University and Dance and Social Commentary with Diana Ramos at Spelman College.
