My primary responsibilities are in a standards alignment project, working as an online coach to support teachers as they align their instruction closer to their state standards. Responsibilities include team meetings to learn new content and individual coaching sessions that are based on clips of video-taped lessons. I also worked on a project that investigated the alignment of Virginia state mathematics standards with NAEP objectives.

I coach teachers to implement the most effective teaching practices for students in grades K - 6. Professional development on mathematical content and instruction is part of this task, as is working with learning teams and individual teachers.

-Coordinated face-to-face professional development events, including monitoring content development, provisioning instructional venue, producing program materials, mounting content on the website, and coordinating invited keynote speakers.-Reviewed content of professional development programming for suitability and coherence across the program.-Reviewed conference proposals for content and adherence to program -Developed content and coordinated professional development modules for online courses in elementary and middle school mathematics topics. -Planned course readings, online sessions, and conduct research on current learning trajectories in elementary mathematics concepts. -Facilitated online discussions, using Adobe Connect as the meeting software, and managed course content and participant responses using the Moodle learning system.

I conducted teacher training in the new content of the 2009 Virginia Standards of Learning, planned and conducted professional development, and acted as an instructional coach.

-Taught 5th through 8th grade Advanced Math, including Algebra I. Also taught 7th and 8th grade general math.-Created and taught fourteen original math projects for grades 5 – 7, drafted and promoted school-wide activities for Pi Day and Presidential elections, and presented a series of hands-on seminars for teachers on the effective use of manipulatives.-Participated in the diocesan mathematics curriculum committee, verifying vertical alignment, identifying correlation with the Virginia Standards of Learning, and enhancing curriculum objectives with resource ideas. Participated in the mathematics textbook review.-Instituted and co-coached a Math Counts team. The team took 4th place locally in 2006.-Raised test scores in the geometry and number sense strands on the annual Terra Nova standardized tests. Eighth grade students improved over 25 percentile points on the High School Placement test from 2002 to 2005.
