After years of working on utility-scale wind energy projects, I co-founded Uprise Energy to create an innovative solution for distributed power generation. At Uprise Energy, we developed the world’s first portable wind turbine of meaningful size, designed to overcome traditional market constraints and serve large, underserved markets.Our Mobile Power Station (MPS) is a versatile, renewable energy solution that combines portability, patented innovations, and user-friendly design to maximize power generation and usability. Jonathan has consulted and provided expert witness testimony on a variety of marine, engineering and energy related projects. In 2003, amidst a host of industry experts, Jonathan and his partner performed forensic analysis and accurately determined the cause of failure on a 600ton Marine Travelift that caused 140' luxury yacht to fall from its lifting slings. Another notable project included the design, engineering and mfg method of a unique façade treatment for licensed Audi dealerships. He and his partner have also made a small number of real estate investments in the San Diego market.

Due to their expertise in composite technology, Knight & Carver Yachtcenter was approached by members of the wind industry to help resolve serial failures in their wind blades. The company successfully repaired thousands of failed blades from around the world for clients that included Vestas, Mitsubishi, Clipper, FP&L and others. In order to meet longevity standards, the company built an indoor blade test apparatus that would simulate a 20yr lifecycle in two week's time. Due to their large size and difficulty of transport, K&C created a field services division with over 250 employees that would perform on-site repairs throughout United States, Canada, Spain and Europe. The company also added blade manufacturing where they developed innovative ways to manufacture wind blades for many of the industry leaders including Northern Power Systems and others. In 2009, K&C partnered with the US Dept. of Energy to develop a wind turbine blade that would improve low wind speed performance. The result was the STAR Blade (Sweep Twist Adaptive Rotor) that set records for best Cp and received the highest award from the DOE for its performance.

Knight & Carver was started in 1972 out of the back of Jonathan's dad, John's pick-up truck, and went on to be the largest boat building company in California with over 100 one-off custom builds to their credit and the largest marine repair facility on the West Coast of the Americas, servicing and retrofitting over 40,000 vessels up to 350'. Growing up, Jonathan worked in every department at the company; carpentry, fiberglass, fairing, paint, mechanical, metal, electrical, ways, facilities, shipping & receiving and production control. Upon graduating college he assumed the position of Production Manager, where he was the Team Lead for all Dept. Leaders, Project Leaders and Lead Boat Builders, overseeing an average of 25,000 billable hours per month. Jonathan implemented numerous production control systems that created a track record and culture of on-time, on-budget performance. In 2000, he was promoted to the roll of Business Manager where he added the duties of contract management, facility relations with the Port of San Diego, insurance management and negotiation, and became more active in community relations while continuing to oversee daily production. During his management tenure at K&C, the company was awarded "Boatyard of the Year" by Showboats Magazine and completed many notable projects that included the build of the Navy stealth vessel "Stiletto" which to this day is still the largest carbon fiber structure ever built and was awarded one of Time Magazine's 'Best New Inventions', numerous custom yachts including 2 Mikelson 78' Sportfishers, 2 77' Awesome Power Catamarans and a 68' Tom Fexas designed raised pilot house motor yacht. In the Service & Repair division, the company performed a 10' hull extension on the previously built "Golden Osprey" lengthening the luxury Sportfisher from 80' to 90' and regularly worked on the yachts of Larry Ellison and Paul Allen amongst others.
