The supermarket chains considered to stop these installations based on this problem.In 2009 I developed a new heat recovery solution adapted for this purpose: -”Transcritical CO2-H(eat) R(ecovery)-System”-This new system secures optimal heat recovery with minimum consumption of energy. Knut Bakken Consulting AS has all proprietary rights to the solution which cannot be used without a contract with my company.Consultant services for supermarkets who want to use CO2 booster units for their cooling and freezing equipment together with my heat recovery system, ”Transcritical CO2-HR-System”. The service also integrates the ventilation system and snow melting systems where there are requirement for that.From 2008 engaged to develop a new generation of refrigeration units with CO2 as refrigerant in cooperation with a trading company.The solution is based on my own earlier ideas from the period I was engaged at Norild AS. Prof. Dr. tech. Gustav Lorentzen at NTNU, Trondheim, rediscovered CO2 as a refrigerant in the middle of the eighties. As an earlier student of Lorentzen, I started in the beginning of the nineties to look for “the finally solution of the refrigerant problem” regarding ozone and global warming potential.From 1984 until 2007 I was engaged as managing director at Norild AS, a Norwegian company producing cabinets and refrigeration units for supermarkets with heat recovery.In 1993 we started a project based on natural refrigerants (CO2 and NH3) in cascade together with Veritas, cooperation and NTNU. Prototype was installed in 1997/98 in own laboratory.In 1997 I made an invention that was given to Norild. The invention, used in the prototype, made it possible to avoid loss of refrigerant (CO2) in shut-down situations.The first complete plant for supermarkets in Norway with only natural refrigerants was delivered in 2002 to a supermarket in Oslo. The project gave as result a genuine solution and the national environmental prize ”Glassbjørnen” in 2003.The system solution was based on Low and Medium Pressure Receivers for respectively low and medium temperature levels.From 2003 we standardized a cascade system with the direct expansion of CO2 and a secondary coolant circuit with HFC for respectively low and medium temperatures.In 2004 we started a new project, based on my ideas, which resulted in a report in 2005 with description of a booster system based on CO2 as refrigerant for both low and medium temperature level with respectively subcritical and transcritical operation. Again we had selected a system with Low Pressure Receivers in both levels. Norild had plans for production of this booster system, but after my retirement in March 2007, the project stopped.
