I am a process automation specialist, and have had the joy of working with one of my great passions for the past 19 years. After I got my advanced craft certificate in automation back in 2001, I've spent many a good year engineering and commissioning on the fantastic ABB SattLine DCS system which is now sadly becoming obsolete. During the past few years I've been working on the ABB System 800xA platform, that system being SattLine's successor, alongside supporting and extending existing SattLine installations.I often use the ABB AC500 PLC system with ABB CP600 panels for machine-related stuff, or for projects that are too small to justify an AC800M controller which goes with the 800xA system, those are not cheap.For the past couple of years, I've also done projects using the ABB Jokab Safety Pluto safety PLC, which is a genius concept for controlling machine or process safety, usually including a Profibus or Profinet gateway for communicating with the plant DCS system.In general, I typically have been working on small- to medium sized projects where we go to great lengths to tailor the solutions to customer needs, often doing stuff that include the latest in new tech and subsequently also might require a bit more engineering and mind-bending, but in the end giving the customer a future-proof and often just as cheap a solution as doing things the old way.
