As the Founding Head of School/Director at Kobe Bilingual School (KOBILS), I lead a team of dedicated educators and staff who share a common vision of creating a model school for Japan that fosters bilingual and multicultural critical thinkers with a strong interest in sustainable change and SDG promotion. With over 30 years of experience in teaching children and adults in schools, businesses and universities, I have developed a curriculum and a culture that nurtures the linguistic, academic, social and life skills of our students here in Japan.My mission is to empower our students to be strong, kind, inquisitive, and lifelong learners (SKILL-ful) who challenge the status quo and contribute to positive, sustainable change for themselves, the local community here in Kobe, and throughout Japan. I also strive to build partnerships and collaborations with other schools and organizations that share our values and goals. For example, I served as the Interim Head of School at Marist Brothers International School for one year, where I supported the transition and growth of the school during a challenging time. I am working with various local organizations, Kobe City and private companies to promote awareness and commitment to the SDGs. In 2023 KOBILS won the Hyogo School's prize for SDGs for our work with our school farm.
