Hotel Panda is a 4 star hotel in Budapest. The former director and co-owner of the hotel is Béla Kocsy, who gave us a short presentation on his extraordinary enterprise. At first sight, the hotel seems to be an average one, with no differences from another 4 star hotel. The reason for this is that the majority – 95% – of the employees are people with changed abilities. This is unique in the whole world. The director does not only provide work for these people, but also the opportunity of development. He supports them during the training period, which contributes to their future success in the “real life”. The hotel is an adult training institution, which takes up an active part in the practical training and education of the mentally disabled people. The whole working area and two rooms are fully accessible, which also provides a reasonable working environment for people with changed abilities. The hotel wants to show a good example, and they want to encourage other hotels, as well, to follow their example. They admit that working with disabled people is hard, but at the same time, a grateful job. Many of the hotel owners blame them, that the guest do not want to see such people around them while they are on holiday, but fortunately, this is not the case in Hotel Panda. Many of the guests do not even recognize that the people working there are different from the average. The employees, although they do not have the same abilities, have to do their job at a maximum level. This place is not a social institution, high quality work is required from the employees. However, the standard is always set up by paying attention to the abilities of the particular people.

Probably you wish to know what the reasons were behind founding the First Hungarian CSR Association (Első Magyar CSR Egyesület).It might not be easy to answer why we have launched it, although for us founders (economists, managers, CEOs, PR and marketing communication experts, CSR consultants and experts) it is obvious: we think the establishment of an organisation is nearly always generated by a professional gap or a problem to be solved.The main problem is clear.On the one hand, as a result of external factors (Brussels, trends, parent company, other companies do the same), the business sector had to get active extremely fast and decidedly in the fields of sustainable development and CSR – in some cases without the supporting professional basics.On the other hand, there is an emerging specialised, yet at the same time inter- and multidisciplinary CSR sector, where the “rules of the game” have not been defined yet.From a professional point of view, we intend to focus on the responsibility of the business sector (see the work in the various sections). However, it does not rule out supporting other stakeholders with our expertise. The keywords of our activity are community, cooperation and locality.
