I am the CEO/Managing Director and founder of the Kode Biotech group of companies (Kode Biotech, Kode Biotech Materials & GlycoNZ) and Professor Emeritus of AUT University. I am also a biological designer with the compelling vision that Kode Technology is a break-through technology and I have the passion and courage to make it happen. My mission is to make it easy for other businesses to incorporate Kode™ Technology and GlycoNZ products into their new products and/or R&D platforms. In 1996 I formed the biotechnology company Kode Biotech to develop "multi-functional bio-paint" aka Kode™ Technology conceived from my background in glycolipids. Together with my colleague and CSO Nicolai Bovin, the Kode™ Technology platform was designed, developed and reduced to practice. Protected by an extensive patent portfolio, Kode™ Technology is being used by a collaborative global research network, and generating revenue from multiple licensed products (with others in the pipeline). Kode™ Technology based products include blood diagnostic products introduced to the market in 2004 & 2007 by CSL, then R&D catalogue constructs in 2011 by Merck-MilliporeSigma, and in August 2018 BioLineRx took the immuno oncotherapeutic Kode™ Technology construct AGI-134 into human clinical trials. In 2015 Kode Biotech won the Supreme NZ Innovator Award for our contribution to this anti-cancer therapy innovation. I was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of NZ in 2021.I originally trained as a medical laboratory scientist, specialising in immunohematology, and later undertook part-time university studies in science and business, including PhD’s in New Zealand (Auckland) and Sweden (Göteborg). My research, which later formed the basis of Kode™ Technology, resolved the serological, biochemical and genetic basis of various unusual blood group phenotypes, and the collaborative discovery of FORS, the 7th human carbohydrate blood group system. Although I am the CEO, I have a strong academic background in science, biotechnology and innovation and I have published or presented >200 scientific articles and I am an inventor on multiple patents/applications. After 24 years involvement with AUT University as a Professor I retired from academia in 2023 and now have the honorary title of Professor Emeritus at AUT University, School of Engineering.Please see www.kodecyte.org and www.glycoNZ.com for further details.
