Bachelors in Linguistics TESOL, currently enrolled as a graduate student for a masters degree in General Linguistics and Advanced TESOL/SLAT certification at CSU Fresno. My academic focus is in Syntax and Phonology and how second language acquisition effects them. I actively work with one of my professors and fellow graduate students researching a Siouxan Native American Language called Hidatsa, which has resulted in new academic findings which we have presented at conferences. My involvement has helped me develop skills in data analysis, technical writing, critical thinking and the ability to apply the linguistic knowledge I have learned into meaningful research. During my undergraduate degree, I volunteered for two years at my current place of employment, The American English Institute (AEI) CSU Fresno. I worked as an apprentice teacher with several different teachers, helping teach students at a variety of different skill levels, ranging from low intermediate to advanced. I taught classes in listening/speaking, as well as reading/writing. I taught primarily in person, but due to the pandemic, I also learned to teach online via Zoom and also gained experience teaching mixed skill level classes due to smaller class sizes. I currently am teaching a mixed level listening/speaking as an official employee at AEI as of March 2020.
