Over the past 24 years I have worked for two Universities, two telecommunications companies, a major retailer, and a major software/cloud infrastructure provider. Starting my career as a computer technician, transitioning into a systems engineer, and then a software developer, I have worked with many fine folk, learned a ton, and now enjoy helping and mentoring others as they evolve in their careers. There simply is no substitute for experience.15 years ago, I would have argued vehemently about that statement, but seeing through these vastly more experienced eyes I now understand that simple truth and even embrace it. I have more to give and a life of giving is a good life. One of the major lessons I have learned over the years is that I am still learning. Always have been and always will be. Sometimes making mistakes, but owning them and learning from them. They are opportunities and more valuable than gold when handled appropriately. If you are looking for experience without ego, let's chat.

Senior Systems EngineerNordstrom Sep 2015 - Nov 2018Seattle, Washington, UsBuilt a Ruby gem (Stoarray, link below) that assists with API calls to flash storage arrays from Pure and EMC. This gem is used in production to perform clone refreshes and snapshots of databases. Test coverage is provided by Rspec and Coveralls, CI/CD by Travis-CI, while mockable.io is used to mock array responses during build testing.Stoarray gem: https://github.com/kodywilson/stoarrayCreated an automated metrics and monitoring solution by utilizing the Stoarray gem to perform periodic API calls to Pure and Xtremio flash arrays, pushing array metrics to an InfluxDB (time series database) which is connected to Grafana for data visualization (graphs, charts, and monitoring). Documented and published the process at https://kodywilson.com/2016/11/07/infrastructure-metrics-with- grafana-and-influxdb/.Revamped Nordstrom’s NetBackup Chef cookbook to better enforce state and improve automation around NetBackup client installs and configuration.Developed direct to DataDomain backup and restore process for Oracle Databases.Updated many Chef cookbooks for Chef 13 compliance removing deprecated code.Helped convert servers from closed-source authentication software to open-source SSSDreducing license costs. -
