I am a half Dutch, half German engineer born in Cambridge, UK, who can speak Dutch and German. I have a master’s in Mechanical Engineering, and I am passionate about researching materials and mechanical objects. This passion for research started at my first job as a KTP associate for a slip ring manufacturer, where my KTP project was to create a novel slip ring, which used a liquid (except for Mercury) to conduct electricity. During the job I looked at a colloid carbon nanotubes and an alloy of Gallium, which introduced me to an interesting historic research paper from NASA and some potential uses in the flexible medical equipment industry.My passion for researching materials is not narrowed down to liquids. I am also interested in how these liquids react with metals (i.e., wettability and contact angles) and solid metals themselves. In my latest job in the pharmaceutical industry, I have been looking at different tool steels and how their different compositions effect their corrosion, machinability, tensile strength, impact resistance, and strength. This role in the pharmaceutical industry has also started an interest in coatings for steels.My interests go beyond just steels and liquids, they also go into mechanical objects, which started with my childhood fascination of trains and during my early teen years into the automotive industry. The transition into the automotive industry started when my household bought a couple car. One of these cars was a 1961 Volvo P544, which had some issues such as unaligned steering rack, and issues with the starting motor engaging with the engine. This is where I started to learn the basics and my fascination with mechanics started.As a result I am very much interested in conductive liquids, metals, wettability (contact angles), coatings for metals, mechanics, and automotive mechanics.
