Investigating the possibilities of measuring contaminants in metal samples by using optical emission spectroscopy on an atmospheric pressure spark discharge in a novel application.

Research into the use of atmospheric pressure plasma jets in the decontamination of burn wounds. Characterization of the plasma source is performed using power measurements, optical emission spectroscopy gas temperature measurements, absolute UV measurements and molecular beam mass spectrometry measurements. Similar plasma conditions are used to treat Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as keratinocytes and fibroblasts in an effort to gain understanding in the mechanisms of bacterial inactivation and cell stimulation observed in plasma treatments. Final grade 9.5/10.

Testing, characterization and optimization of a novel three-channel cascaded arc plasma source in an attempt to generate a 10cm wide homogeneous hydrogen plasma beam. These experiments were performed in the Pilot-PSI setup as a proof of concept for a multi-channel hydrogen plasma source to be used in Magnum-PSI. Final grade 8.5/10.
