Measurements to determine the mixing state of black carbon emitted from the 2017–2018 California wildfires and urban Los Angeles (Ko et al. 2020)- Conducted field measurements using a single particle soot photometer (SP2) to quantify how BC internal mixing state varies as a function of emissions source and agingMeasuring the impacts of a real-world neighborhood-scale cool pavement deployment on albedo and temperatures in Los Angeles (Ko et al. 2022)- Conducted field measurements to assess the thermal impacts of neighborhood-scale cool pavements in the Los Angeles regionModeling the impacts of anthropogenic heat emissions in the Los Angeles Region (in progress)- Developing a high resolution (~100m) hourly dataset of anthropogenic heat (AH) flux for the Los Angeles region, and subsequently modeling the impacts of AH on local to regional air temperatures

- Developed an ML pipeline for urban radiation detection with an interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers

- Collaborated with a national team to complete the 2010 Sulfur Dioxide National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) designations- Worked with state agencies in the Midwest region to approve air quality plans for the attainment and maintenance of the NAAQS- Reviewed submitted air quality reports and technical documentation- Drafted and published NAAQS rules in the Federal Register

- Surveyed domestic and industrial heating systems on the UC Berkeley campus- Created a digital inventory of mechanical assets i.e. pumps, heat exchangers, chillers, etc. - Measured major leaks in the heating/cooling system and estimated resulting capital losses- Performed heat transfer calculations to estimate energy losses from mechanical equipment and suggested viable alternatives for energy/capital savings in a presentation setting - Created a water distribution system model for the UC Berkeley campus on WaterGEMS from CAD drawings
