As a service member, I preformed the duties of a second class petty officer. My job title was Engineman and my primary responsibilities included the operation of and maintenance of two service diesel generator and two main propulsion engines. After one year, I was awarded the position of oil lab supervisor where I became the pass/no pass authority for all fuel oil, lube oil, and coolant used on board the ship as well as quality checking the aviation fuel used onboard landing helicopter platforms. I served on the ships flight deck firefighting team as a scene leader. My responsibilities in the role included supervising two firefighting teams on the ships flight deck. Each team consisted of five team members placing me in charge of ten persons in total. I coordinated fire fighting efforts in the event of an emergency and ensured fuel systems and electrical systems were secured during casualties. I served on the ships reaction force as a team member. My primary duties in the role included working with a team to clear the ship in the event that the ship was boarded or a take over attempt were to occur. I was trained in the use of handguns, rifles, and shotguns as part of this duty.
