I served as the Lead Coordinator for the Philadelphia initiative of Walk the World 2006, an annual charity walk initiated by the United Nations' World Food Program in an effort to eliminate child hunger around the world by 2015. The 2006 Walk took place on May 21, and over 760,000 people participated in 118 countries.My responsibilities included corresponding with National Coordinator, organizing meetings with and providing leadership to other coordinators (4), using Yahoo Group to facilitate communication and information sharing, securing sponsorships, planning the event, etc. I took the initiative of creating and organizing the Walk in Philadelphia when I discovered that no walk had yet been created for the city. Despite having only 1.5 months to organize the event, 28 people participated, 4 sponsors were secured, and we raised $600+. This has allowed us to provide food for an entire year to approximately 20 children who suffer from chronic hunger.http://fighthunger.org/

-Architected and developed a prototype of an educational-related J2ME mobile application for a startup venture.-Developed numerous components that were added to IDE’s component palette to allow for reusability, and developed business logic to facilitate the easily storage and retrieval of data objects on the mobile device and to avoid locking up the application when accessing large amounts of data.-Developed reusable logic to be able to perform data upgrades on a mobile device without the need to first send all of the application data on the device to the server as a way of reducing network packet cost and the time required to perform data-only upgrades.-Technologies used included J2SE1.5, J2ME, Netbeans4.1/5+MobilityPack, Motorola J2ME SDK, Nokia Series 60 MIDP SDK, and Ant; researched and recently started using Spring, Hibernate3/EJB3, PostgreSQL database, and GlassFish9.0/JBoss4 application servers to handle the server-side business logic and data persistence.

-Developed a Java-based application for encrypting customer data for secured sharing and reporting purposes. Later trained client onsite in Japanese on how to use application.-Re-architected initial implementation of broadband setup and configuration solution from scratch and added numerous new features for second major client. Enhancements includedthe ability to easily add support for new ISPs and modems, inclusion of multimedia and more graphics to improve usability and UI, significant reduction of user completion time of software from 10-20 minutes to 3-8 minutes, and a world-first, the ability for a user to configure their broadband modem and settings completely wirelessly. -Designed and developed website for the Penn Club of Japan (PCJ) to provide information for University of Pennsylvania alumni who were living in Japan. -Setup a Yahoo Group for the organization to disseminate updates and notices from the Officer Board to its members, as well as facilitate communication among PCJ members.-Provided other technical assistance to the Officer Board and PCJ members.

-Developed 8+ web-based applications, using WebLogic6.1+, Struts1.1, and other technologies, for company’s regional websites, including Japan, UK, Canada, and Russia.-Designed new database schema to be used across all regional promotional applications to promote re-use of entities, SQL statements, reporting, database resources, and Java persistence code, and to ensure consistency in application development.
