Master's Thesis: Quantifying the Thermal Contribution Towards Plasmonic Catalysis

Innovative engine cycles for alternative aircraft propulsion towards carbon-neutrality:Performed a complete literature review on innovative engine cycles. Analysed the performance of a turbofan engine with and without an intercooler through the software Gas Turb. Developed a Matlab script to design in detail a heat exchanger, providing calculations of heat load, outlet temperatures, pressure losses, weight, and size. Analysed the viability of utilising cryogenic hydrogen as a heat sink for an intercooler

Analysis of natural and forced convection flow in liquid argon based neutrino detector using computational fluid dynamics. Generated 2D, and 3D models of the world’s largest liquid argon based neutrino detector. Completed a mesh study, time step study, analysis of different turbulence models (k-epsilon, k-epsilon realizable, k-epsilon realizable with enhanced wall treatment, k-omega SST).

Initiated new line of research into recycling plastics through thermo-plasmonics, while also developing a new expression for thermal boundary conditions that allow rapid solution of photothermal processes.

Work placement with hands-on-practice such as operating and setting up CNC lathes, turning of turbocharger parts, milling of various parts with conventional milling machines, drilling of various parts on conventional machines, tools grinding on conventional grinding machine, laser marking, and assembly work, as well as understanding how a work plan of a compressor wheel / shaft arises, measuring of tools according to drawings and assembling of tools, providing devices and tools, measuring and inspecting parts according to drawings, knowing and understanding the process from product development to series production.
