Designed, prototyped, and evaluated algorithms, protocols, and system architectures for problems in communication networks, in the areas such as adaptive video streaming, Internet of Things, wireless networks, and congestion control; applied techniques from control theory, time series analysis, machine learning, linear algebra, combinatorial optimization, differential equations, signal processing, and game theory; developed software prototypes using C/C++, Python, Matlab, and Maple, also including low-level system functionality, and using various libraries such as libc, STL, Boost, CPLEX/Gurobi, NumPy/SciPy, etc.; applied parallel processing techniques to analyze terabytes of data.Contributed to and co-managed national and international research projects; wrote and coordinated project proposals, published and peer-reviewed scientific papers, co-lectured several courses, and supervised bachelor and master theses.

Developed a distributed system for joint wireless transmission scheduling and video quality adaptation in dense wireless networks (a.k.a. small-cell networks), based on controll-theoretic algorithms

Developed some of the first adaptation algorithms for HTTP-based video streaming (MPEG-DASH), resulting in one patent application; contributed to the development of the first HTTP-based adaptive 3D streaming prototype.

At the Neural Information Processing Group: developed signal processing models for noisy neural networks in the visual cortex. At the Telecommunication Networks Group: developed congestion control algorithms for communication networks, and implemented the Host Identity Protocol (HIP) for the FreeBSD operating system; contributed to international research projects (EU FP6 Ambient Networks).

Implemented CAD modules for a roofing design software (Visual Basic). Designed, implemented, and tested a multifunctional server for communication with telecontrol stations (C/C++).

Developed an automation software for an aeroacoustic test stand, controlling a turbofan engine and microphone/loudspeakers arrays. The work was part of the research project Active Noise Reduction for Turbofan Aero Engines.
