Also: I am Field IT, not engineering. Most development is done at corporate level and we do not have much local development at all. This means I am not at all involved in any application development, product engineering or running any data centers. I get many requests weekly to exchange information, best practices and ideas in a personal meeting or phone call, or just meet for a coffee to get to know people. I wish I could talk to every person, but I just don't have the bandwidth, and my stomach could never take that many coffees! This is why I speak at big events, and try to focus interaction based on my core areas of expertise.
