This role has two main parts, acting as a liaison between our organization and our presence within the SDSU and San Diego community, and working with the directors of mini marathons to set up new programs. While the latter is a team effort, the director of community outreach is the primary person in charge of targeting, reaching out & presenting to new high schools in the San Diego area.

Spearhead community involvement with my partner by pioneering High School Mini Marathons. My partner and I facilitated Carlsbad High School students to fundraise $10,818.60 for Rady Children’s Hospital. Along with planning mini-marathons, I also raised funds and awareness of pediatric health at Rady Children’s Hospital. My partner and I are also responsible for campus-community involvement (student organization partnerships, campus event involvement, etc.). Dance Marathon at San Diego State University was able to raise $365,221.54 for the kids and families at Rady Children's Hospital. This success has allowed us to raise almost $1.2 million For The Kids (FTK) over six years.

Advised over 60 students on any questions they might have about their psychology major. Trained to declare psychology majors and minors, submit academic petitions, counsel individuals on academic matters, and make appointments with department directors. Also, correspond to students and send out follow-up emails. Semester projects was also another duty as a working advisor. My partner and I took on the project of community college outreach. We were able to prepare a flyer that briefly explained the services we offer at the Psychology Undergraduate Advising Office.

Attended biweekly meetings and assisted in establishing an environment of motivation and mutual support among collegiate women pursuing their undergraduate STEM degree. Most importantly, played an active role in breaking the stigma of women in science related fields.

Earned certification as a peer educator on drug abuse and mental health. Presented to middle school students to raise awareness on the effects of drug abuse and stress coping mechanisms. Also, participated in The Lisa Project, which was a simulation on the reality of child abuse.
