Having been trained and educated by Hawaii's "Kupuna," or "Elders," I have acquired a profound knowledge and deep understanding of traditional Hawaiian cultural practices, not limited to just hula and chant. I have taught people from around the world on various subjects pertaining to Hawaiian, and other Pacific Island cultures. I hope that the people I continue to meet will gain from their time and experience with me an understanding of what it means to be Hawaiian from a native perspective. I will try to answer questions such as why there's animosity today between Hawaii's "kama'aina," (long time residents) "malahini," (new comers) and today's "modern visitor," (tourist). I believe it's beneficial for everyone who comes to, or currently lives in Hawaii to understand where and how Hawaiians fit in the global world of today. This is why I have created, Maika'ikena Tours. Mai ka 'ikena, translated into English means, "from the knowing," Rather than taking Hawaii's visitors to the "must see," tourist destinations on the island of O'ahu, I will introduce our visiting guest to the many "wahi pana," or "places of cultural significance." Some of these places are still regarded and respected as being extremely sacred to this day. I offer narrative tours which are reenforced with foot tours, introduction to and demonstrations of traditional protocols and cultural practices, along with a sharing of knowledge. I provide profound historical background, explanations and lectures of sites we visit. I also offer and provide "ride share," transportation when reserved well in advance. In addition, I've earned a bachelors degree in Pacific Island Studies and a masters degree in business administration which I feel make me qualified to be your guide.
