Profile bio

About Antti Koskela

Involved in software development since 2004, first as a freelancer, then as a developer, consultant and architect, building on Azure and Microsoft 365.On the side, I speak about Microsoft 365 & Azure at different community events, do some custom .NET development and web projects, and (weirdly enough), digital marketing.I'm currently living in Finland, but during 2017 you could find me in the United States, and 2018-2019 in Canada. Family drew me back to Finland, but I'm not going to lie: moving to the middle of a Finnish forest after living in downtown Montréal was a bit of a culture shock :)In 2019 I was awarded Microsoft MVP for Office Development - presumably due to all the hacks and "thoughtful workarounds" I've documented at my technology blog at https://www.koskila.net. Further workarounds lead to the category being updated to Azure in 2021.In the ancient history, during my master's program I majored in Computer Science and minored in Financing, Business Studies and Commercial Law.If you're interested in any kind of collaboration, drop me a DM on Twitter or a message here.

Listed skills include Sharepoint, Software Development, Software Design, Scrum, and 46 others.

Blogging | Side Projects | Public Speaking

Finland

I've been a freelancer since 2003.The last few years, my company website has actually evolved into my personal professional blog. I'm posting Azure/.NET/SharePoint/Office365/DevOps -related articles weekly, describing whatever new stuff I've found out. Check it out below, if it sounds interesting! In 2021, the articles on koskila.net were read by over 750 000 people.Since 2017 I've also had the pleasure to occasionally be invited/accepted to speak mostly about Azure/SharePoint -related topics in community events. It's a lot of fun!

Co-Founder | Software Architect

Jyväskylä

What happens when a joke gets out of hand and starts making money? Norppandalotti Software. That's what happens.I co-founded a small consultancy for selling development projects while studying. Nowadays we do bespoke development and PPC & SEO work, my role being mainly the latter.Norppandalotti is a certified Google Partner.

Cloud Solutions Architect

Finland

Sales, architecture and implementation of Software Development projects for a variety of customers. Technologies include (but are definitely not limited to) Azure IoT, Blazor, Azure Functions, .NET 5 (and .NET 6, but don't tell Microsoft we're using it in production already).

Platform Solutions Architect

Finland

Change - the only constant, right? Switched back to a development role to take on the role of a platform solutions tech lead. Reliability engineering, DevOps, and building fun stuff with new toys to empower other teams to build even more fun stuff for the customers and partners out there. :)During the first year, we did a complete overhaul of an old web app based on .NET Framework 4.5, recreating it in .NET Core 3 and Blazor (we qent live with Preview 7 - living on the edge!) Restructured the APIs to enable 0-downtime deployments and global availability using Azure Front Door and some cute tricks to enable partial availability even in disaster scenarios (while the service is being restored).

Solutions Architect & Partner Delivery Support Escalation Engineer

Montreal, Canada Area

Helping our partners help their customers fall in love with their Digital Workplaces!I was taking care of support case escalations - mostly debugging configuration issues in Azure, updating technical documentation, patching bugs in the products, onboarding new partners and training teammates.Occasionally going out to meet potential partners and customers at conferences.

Solutions Architect & Partner Delivery Support

As it turns out, nobody really knows what a Solutions Architect actually does, so I get to do everything! That's the best kind of job description, right? In my daily work, I helped our partners all around the world deliver Valo projects, developed new features to the products, maintained some of our online marketing and had the chance to meet and greet fans and friends of Valo at conferences and other events.

Software Designer / Sharepoint Tech Lead

Jyväskylä

Keeping the love/hate relationship with SharePoint going.... but seriously, though, most of my work DOES revolve around SharePoint, more or less. I've been creating pretty interesting gadgets that run on your desktop, quite amazing little things that live in Azure and do magnificent things (which quite often involves interacting with SharePoint, sure) with or without user input, awesome and horrible customizations to both on-prem and cloud SharePoint instances and a bunch of other different technological things that may or may not be related to SharePoint. When I don't have my hands buried deep in the guts of SharePoint, I may be running usability tests to some customers or analyzing Google Analytics data for others - and that's a lot of fun. Interacting with both the customer and end-users is like the cherry on top of the (sometimes ugly) cake for me.At times I also sell things, but that mostly happens by accident, as I get quite carried away by the cool things we could do for the customer and sometimes that's enough to make the customer buy them. And that's pretty great.Among other things, I'm responsible to keeping the intranet service running for one of our biggest customers. Not alone, though - luckily I have a kick-ass service manager and extremely skilled colleagues to do most of the work, otherwise I wouldn't have so much time to do all the fun stuff, and nothing good comes out of working alone anyway. To see more of what we do at Meteorite, check these sites out:www.valointranet.com (even SharePoint can be pretty cool!)www.meteoriitti.comAlso, check out my blog - it consists of incoherent and very techy ramblings, but it could be useful:www.koskila.net

Mar 2015 - Jun 2016

System Designer & Scrum Master

Jyväskylä

Samcom Oy and Oy Samlink Ab merged in 2014. At the same time, I took the responsibilities of a Scrum Master for our SharePoint-team. I still kept working mostly on SharePoint (both SharePoint Online & SharePoint Server), TFS and everything related to usability. Occasionally, I got the chance to dive into small-scale Azure projects, too.

Jul 2014 - Mar 2015

System Designer

Jyväskylä

I started off as SharePoint developer, and during my years at Samcom/Samlink I've expanded my knowledge in all things SharePoint. Even though I've specialized in SharePoint development, I also know my fair share of SharePoint administration and configuration. Most of my experience is from SharePoint 2013 (on-prem), but I also have experience from SharePoint 2010, 2007 and Office 365. In addition to SharePoint-development responsibilities I partake in requirements engineering, work estimation, solution specification and of course customer support.I have also taken responsibilities in other fields such as .NET development, Team Foundation Server administration, usability testing (first as part of a case study related to my master's thesis, but later on other projects too), mentoring for TFS- and SharePoint-related things, and occasionally work as a substitute Scrum Master for our team in SharePoint projects. Some of my most interesting responsibilities at Samcom include:1. Gathering, refactoring and migrating Samlink's somewhat scattered codebase of SharePoint-related customizations from a lot of very customized solutions to one, versatile and modular collection of easily deployable solutions. I was able to get rid of legacy (for example redundant and sometimes circular dependencies) in our codebase thus making it much easier to deploy only important and actually needed solutions to different environments.2. Migrating codebase from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010, SharePoint 2013 and Office 365 (this seems to be a neverending process, though).3. Developing a lightweight usability testing framework which works well with Samlink's iterative agile development model (and most likely works with pretty much any other iterative model, as the framework is lightweight and versatile!)4. Managing, administering and supporting the usage of Team Foundation Server used at Samlink. Not only technical work, but also training and permissions management.

Salesperson / Consumer Electronics

Kind of self-explanatory I suppose, but I sold consumer electronics. It wasn't as bad as everyone says - retail hell has it's good sides! The feeling when you actually make a fine profit for your employer by selling the customer what they wanted (but didn't really know that when entering the store) it does feel pretty nice.It may have been just a simple summer job, but it sure was interesting work - in a way.

Jun 2010 - Aug 2010

Accountant

Wejjon Tili- Ja Atk-Palvelu

Ähtäri

I worked part-time, mostly at weekends and holidays, about 3-4 months a year.Main responsibilities were organizing accounting documents, doing the basic financial accounting and contacting customers. To some extent also responsible for final statements for around 50-70 customers each year (although this has varied wildly).
