International Students And Scholar Services

My study abroad experience in Germany was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Three days after arriving to the United States when my journey ended, I began working at the Office of International Studies at my university to help international students start and enjoy their journey at Illinois State University. Being apart of the International Orientation Team (IOT), I organized, set-up, planned, and assisted with the Fall and Spring Orientation week for new, incoming international students. Before orientation week began, my members and I worked with the international advisors to ensure which students were arriving to orientation. We wrote emails and reminders for students and provided our contact information for any questions the international students had before, during, and after their stay in America. I communicated with a wide group of people from all over the world and provided information regarding their studies and living standards in the Bloomington-Normal area. During the summer of 2015, I drove the team members around the Bloomington-Normal area asking for donations for the international students' activities during orientation week. We went to big and small businesses encouraging to donate, but also to promote their business to new customers that will be staying in the area for the semester or year. I also called businesses to ask if they were coming to the international student's orientation day of "Open House" where students were able to sign up for phone plans or bank accounts. The International Office and IOT also set-up a dinner on the last night of orientation and invited international students, faculty, staff, and members of the business to show our appreciation while enjoying American culture. Orientation week was filled with many activities for international students and as an IOT member, it was our responsibility to help direct the students to their meetings and answer any questions.

I record incidents in Cherwell and document the progress to ensure the necessary steps have been taken to solve the problem or request. During my time at JCPenney, I have grown as a person, a worker, and a leader. I started as a cashier, but enjoyed spending time helping customers on the floor and making sure the store matched company standards. On the register, I would greet customers in a polite manner and ensure that they were satisfied with their merchandise. While growing my customer skills on the cash register, I cleaned the area, but always putting the customer first.I took pride in my work and my managers noticed by trusting me with training new employees and giving me more responsibilities. I expanded my knowledge throughout the store and was very versatile to work in any department in JCP. I began working in the children's department, but also acquired the abilities and skills to clean and work in the lingerie and accessories department.My time and experience at JCPenney is very valuable to me and has helped me my future endeavors.

Beginning my retail journey at JCPenney, I wanted to challenge more myself as I familiarized myself with the customer service aspect in the retail industry. I was offered a position at Victoria's Secret and learned many new approaches to helping customers while maintaining company's standards.I started as an on-the-floor sales associate who assisted consumers finding the perfect items while maintaining a positive attitude. I was an engaged worker and very attentive to customers' problems and questions.
