About Krysten Pampel Ph.D.

I have five years of experience teaching at a low socio-economic high school, with a diverse population, in Arizona’s west valley. When teaching at the high school level, I was the course coordinator for Algebra 1, which covered similar concepts found in MAT092. Part of my job as course coordinator was the organization of the material. This included the overall structure of the courses that myself and five other teachers taught as well as classroom observations of the lessons being taught. I was also apart of a team that developed curriculum for a pre-algebra course which has concepts found in MAT 081. I piloted the pre-algebra course, which included three stations that included technology, practice, and instruction. I have experience working with developmental mathematics students at the college level as well. Prior to teaching fulltime at GCC, I was an adjunct faculty at PVCC teaching predominately MAT 08X, 09X, and 12X. This experience required developing and implementing multiple teaching methods. Every class requires multiple teaching methods be applied and tested since every class of students is unique. Every class provides me with successes and failures when it comes to my teaching methods but I remain flexible by continuing to try new methods that will hopefully better my students’ mathematical understandings. In order to find new teaching methods I read articles from the mathematics education community.
